Maso Diez: Hotdog Singer at Age 16

The year was 1980.

Then a senior high school student at an exclusive school, Maso turned 'professional' and joined Hotdog (who had just returned from successful stints in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur).

She was sizzling hot at a tender young age -- with riffs that betrayed her jazz leanings.

The advent of consumer video cameras around that time made this rare footage possible. (Taken at a debut party at the Chinabank building in Makati.)

It was also the first and last time that Maso and singer Ella del Rosario worked together.

My brother in-law Patrick, Mike's brother in the US was once a musician in Manila and sooooo in love with anything Pinoy. Idol na idol niya ang Hotdog that is why he kept a poster of us on his wall during the early 80's.
Mike fell in love with the big-haired girl in that poster when he was 13 years old and would marry her twenty-seven years later. Imagine?
Kung hindi dahil sa Hotdog walang Mike and Maso tandem ngayon.
I am proud to be a Hotdog!

Thanks for the trip Direk!

I am an avid fan of the Hotdog during my high school and college days....and it's great seeing Maso sing with the M.O.B.B. band every other Wednesday at the Taboo Ultra Lounge where my boss is a guitarist.
